My Art Tutorial

Hi everyone! For today’s blog post, we were asked to create an art tutorial for our classmates! I was really excited for this assignment because there were so much ideas for what I could create! One idea that stood out from the others was this drawing technique that my high school art teacher taught me. Has anyone ever heard of neurographic art? Well, it’s an art technique that is widely used in art therapy, promoting mindfulness and emotion processing. Because I’m studying both psychology and art, I truly understand how art deeply enriches our understanding of ourselves and the complexities of the human experience.

What we will be creating:

Materials you will need:

- Paper

- Pencil

- Colored pencils

- Marker

Step 1: Begin by drawing a line, doodle, or scribble on the your paper. I personally chose to draw irregular organic forms. Feel free to draw spontaneous free-form lines!

Step 2: Begin rounding the corners to soften the sharp edges on every intersection where the lines cross.

Step 3: Choose any color of your choice and begin coloring! I chose to use a yellow marker to create some kind of shading within the shapes. Of course, feel free to use any medium of your choice for this! If you do use a medium like watercolor, I recommend using a sharpie or pen to draw the lines and shapes.

I then colored the rest with colored pencil and decided to add more shading.

After you finish coloring, you’re left with this beautiful neurographic art!
